UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION

All countries except a few unimportant territories are included in the Universal Postal Union, the affairs of which are controlled by an International Convention. The regulations governing the letter post to places abroad are, therefore, part of an international scheme applicable to all countries alike, and have been adopted as part of the international obligations of the Hong Kong Post Office under the Convention. The parcel post to places abroad is governed by separate agreement with the countries concerned.

GENERAL APPLICATION OF THE POSTAL REGULATIONS

The regulations apply generally to any postal packet sent between one place and another within the Colony or to a place in any other country. The classes of postal packets admitted to the post are: Letters, postcards, small packets (overseas post only), printed papers, commercial papers, samples, articles for the blind and parcels (overseas post only).

RATES OF POSTAGE

LETTERS

Hong Kong, China and Macau: The prepaid rate of postage for letters addressed to places in the Colony and to China and Macau is 10 cents for each oz. or part of an oz.

All places in the British Commonwealth, the British Post Offices in Morocco and the Persian Gulf Ports, and the Republic of Ireland: The prepaid rate of postage is 20 cents for the first ounce and 15 cents for each additional ounce.

Foreign, except China and Macau: For letters to other places abroad, the rate is 40 cents for the first ounce and 25 cents for each additional ounce.

WEIGHT AND SIZE

The limit of weight to all destinations is 4 lb.

The limit of size are:

British Commonwealth. 2 feet in length, 18 inches in breadth, 18 inches in depth.

All other Countries. 3 feet in length, breadth and depth combined, the greatest dimension not to exceed 2 feet,
