as on the label, if one is used; but the use of labels is not recommended where this can possibly be avoided. The name and address of the sender as well as the addressee should be given inside the parcel.

POSTING

Imperial and foreign parcels cannot be registered but they may be insured (see pages 112 to 118). Atten- tion is drawn to the necessity for insuring, for at least part of its value, a parcel containing articles of gold, silver or jewellery sent to any place abroad to which the insurance system extends (see page 117).

Parcels for Europe, America, and Australia, must be posted before 5 p.m. on the work day next before the departure of the steamer, or as advertised in the Post Office Daily Mail Notice.

A receipt of posting is given for each parcel, but such receipt does not indicate that any liability or responsibility attaches to the Post Office for loss, damage, or delay, in respect of any parcel.

CUSTOMS DECLARATION AND DESPATCH

NOTE

All parcels for places abroad are liable to be opened for examination in the country of destination and the contents are subject to the Customs, assay, trade mark and other legal requirements of the country of destina- tion. The sender of a parcel is accordingly required to make an accurate declaration of the nature and value of the contents. Customs declaration forms for this purpose can be obtained at any Post Office. The forms should be filled up in ink, and senders are recommended to avoid the use of abbreviations, ditto marks, and so on, which may not be intelligible in the country of destination.

Three kinds of declaration forms are in use namely;

(1) Form A (mainly for Empire use)

(2) Form C (for use to most foreign countries)

(3) Special Blue Form (for use to the United

States).

Two or more forms A may be required (see Column 5 of the tables pages 217 to 355.
