CUSTOMS TREATMENT ABROAD

Particulars of the countries which admit sample packets containing articles liable to Customs duty are given on pages 86 to 88. Sample packets containing dutiable articles sent to other countries may be returned, subjected to fines, or confiscated according to the laws of the country of destination.

CUSTOMS TREATMENT IN UNITED KING- DOM OF DUTIABLE GOODS IMPORTED BY SAMPLE POST

Genuine trade samples of certain classes of dutiable goods are allowed to be imported into the United Kingdom by sample post, and, in addition, bees, printers' blocks and serums may also be imported by sample post. For full particulars of the conditions upon which these goods may be imported, see pages 91

to 94.

PACKETS CONTAINING PRINTED MATTER,

COMMERCIAL PAPERS AND SAMPLES

It is permissible to enclose in the same packet printed matter (except literature for the blind), com- mercial papers and samples, provided that each article taken singly is within the limits applicable to it as regards weight and size, and that the total weight does not exceed five pounds if the packet is addressed to a place in the British Empire, or four pounds if addressed to a foreign country.

The minimum charge for such a packet is 25 cents if it contains commercial papers, and 10 cents if it consists of printed matter and samples.

Literature for the Bind

Papers of any kind. periodicals, and books, impressed in Braille or other special type for the use of the blind, may be sent, prepaid at the following rate of postage:

Any destination

3 cents for each two pounds or

part of two pounds.

Limit of weight 11 lbs.

The packets should be clearly marked in the upper left-hand corner BLIND LITERATURE. In all other res- pects the regulations regarding printed papers apply.
