recently erected in Central District. Eventually access will be available from this walkway direct into the new G.P.O.
59. Feasibility mechanization layouts for the new General Post Office and International Mail Centre at Hung Hom have now been prepared by the British Post Office Consultancy Service. Tender docu- ments and specifications for the postal mechanization to be installed in these major projects are in course of preparation in readiness for tender formalities later in 1973.
60. Two new Post Offices were opened during the year at Ho Man Tin and at the Peak Towers building on Victoria Peak, bringing the total number of Post Offices in service to 65. In addition to these new offices, the So Uk Post Office was re-provisioned in a new and separate building with larger accommodation in the Lei Cheng Uk Estate.
61. Improvement works were also carried out at a number of offices. The most notable of these were at Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan Post Offices where counter and sorting office facilities were expanded to cater for the fast growing developments in these districts.
62. Following completion of a Public Opinion Survey among the business community during the year (mentioned in the introductory comments to this Report) special emphasis was placed on Customer Relations activities. This involved giving advice to the larger postal users on how to make the best use of available facilities and whilst at the same time assisting the Post Office by an improved flow of work at posting points.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES
63. The establishment and operation of telecommunication services in Hong Kong is subject to the provisions of the Telecommunications Ordinance, which is administered by the Postmaster General as the Telecommunications Authority.
64. The internal public telephone system is operated by the Hong Kong Telephone Company Limited, under the terms of the franchise granted in the Telephone Ordinance.
65. Cable & Wireless Ltd. provide international telephone and telegraphic services and internal telegraphic services under the terms
