In the case of the last three mentioned prosecutions all the equipment concerned was forfeited to the Crown under Section 36 of the Ordinance.

67. Eight cases of reported infringement of the International Radio Regulations by Operators of ships registered in Hong Kong were investigated.

68. Preparations are now complete for the introduction of the new General Maritime Radiocommunication Certificate. Part I of the new examination is to be held in July 1972. The last examination for Part I of the existing 1st and 2nd Class Certificates of Competency will be held in June 1972; the last examination for Part II of these Certificates is scheduled to be held in March 1973.

69. Examinations for the two parts of the First and Second Class Certificate of Competency were held on four occasions with the following results:

71. The annual examination of candidates for the Radar Mainte- nance Certificate was conducted on behalf of the Director of Marine. This examination has been revised to incorporate transistorized Radar equipment and a more comprehensive practical training. All seven candidates were successful.

72. Staff were made available to the Director of Marine for inspecting and surveying ship radio stations to ensure compliance with the Inter- national Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and to advise on the installation of equipment on new vessels. 192 ship radio stations were surveyed for the issue of Safety Certificates and 80 vessels were inspected. In addition, the Direction Finding equipment of 60 vessels was recalibrated.
