Bathing Pavilions

99. The swimming sheds built from Post Office Recreation Club funds at Stanley and Ting Kau have been constantly in use at weekends throughout the swimming season.

Social Activities

100. The annual Childrens' Party for children of all the staff of the Department was held on 14th February, 1971. Nearly 1,000 children were entertained by guest artistes including film, television and radio personalities. Another well attended event was the departmental launch picnic to Sai Kung in August. The final function of the year was the farewell cocktail party for the retiring Postmaster General, Mr. C. G. FOLWELL, I.S.O., held at the Post Office Recreation Club premises on 14th March, 1971.

Swimming

101. Due to the untimely death of Mr. A. G. CROOK it was decided, as a mark of respect, to cancel the Annual Inter-Section Swimming Competition.

Hogarth Shield

102. Participation in the competition this year rose to 16 teams and the shield was again won by the Hong Kong Postmen with Sorting Office (H.K.) as runners-up.

CONCLUSION

103. I would like to thank the staff at all levels for their loyal support and the patience which they have shown, often under difficult and trying conditions. I hope that these conditions will be materially improved in the not too distant future.
