61. With the general advance in the technology of solid state circuit techniques, applications are being received for many new types of facilities and new licences will be required to cover these services.
62. The Inspectorate continued to carry out inspections of all types of equipment and 244 prosecutions were conducted against persons found contravening the Ordinance, with the following results:

Six cases of reported infringement of the International Radio Regula- tions by operators of ships registered in Hong Kong were investigated.
63. Preparation is being made for the introduction in March 1972 of the new General Maritime Radiocommunication Certificate, which is to replace the present First and Second Class Certificate of Com- petency. The examination requirement for this new Certificate is of a higher standard, generally broader in scope and will contain 8 separate sections. Existing First and Second Class Certificates will continue to be accepted. Holders of these Certificates who wish to qualify for the new Certificate will not be required to sit certain sections of the new examination.
64. Examinations for the two parts of the First and Second Class Certificate of Competency were held on three occasions with the follow- ing results:
