Remittance Services
30. There were general increases in the totals of remittances by Money Order and Postal Order services compared with 1968-69. Increased use of the local money order service in paying subscriptions for publications accounted for much of the numerical increase, whilst the increase in value of issued money orders was chiefly due to remittance by Pakistani residents to West Pakistan. Commission earned on the remittance services was $328,863.52, an increase of $99,351.41 on the previous year.

31. On the 31st March, 1970 there were 316 licences in issue, 67 having been issued and 36 cancelled during the year.
Postage Meter Machine
32. The increasing recognition by business houses of the advantages of using postage meter machines continues and the number licensed rose from 523 in 1968-69 to 643 in 1969-70. This is more than twice the number in use five years ago. Postage collected through meter accounts was over $30,000,000.
POSTAL SERVICES
33. Significant increases were observed in most categories of postal articles posted during the year, the total number of which was estimated to be 246.1 million representing a rise of 16.5 million or 7.2% over the preceding year, this after allowing for notional adjustments in certain figures for 1968-69, as indicated at Appendix I, which were found to
