ACCOMMODATION

73. The total number of Post Offices in operation on the 1st April, 1967 was 52 including two mobile offices. During the year, four new Post Offices were opened, one Post Office and one mobile Post Office were closed as follows:

bringing the total to 54 Post Offices in operation on 31st March, 1968. The Sai Ying Pun Post Office moved from its temporary hut to new premises on 3.4.67.

74. The development programme provides for the opening of a further four new Post Offices in the next financial year and the provision of a new Post Office at Des Voeux Road to replace the Man Yee Arcade Post Office.

75. Of the more important building projects the following informa- tion is reported:

(a) New General Post Office

In the light of new circumstances and traffic levels revised schedules of accommodation requirements have been submitted and a feasibility study prepared on the new G.P.O. That part of the Central Reclamation on which the new G.P.O. is to be erected has been completed, and active consideration is now being given to this project.

(b) Colony Transit Mail Office and Sorting Office, Hung Hom

Schedules of accommodation requirements have been submitted and planning is proceeding with a tentative completion date in 1971.

(c) Overseas Mail Centre

Work on the conversion of the Overseas Mail Centre was suspended in view of the provision of the New Colony Sorting Office.
