also rose it was to less than 20% of the increase in revenue. This was accomplished with no increase in senior staff, the majority of whom were on acting appointments for much of the year. It was also necessary for one Controller to cover the area of both Controllers and that so much was accomplished is a great credit to them, but it is obvious that more senior appointments on the traffic side will require to be made to cover the increase of business, supervision of the growing number of offices, and leave.
Senior Staff Movements
15. Mr. A. G. Crook was appointed Postmaster General with effect from 1st August, 1958; and Mr. C. G. Folwell and Mr. S. J. Hydes were appointed Deputy Postmaster General and Chief Postal Account- ant respectively, from the same date.
16. Mr. C. G. Folwell, Deputy Postmaster General, proceeded on vacation leave on 30th August, 1958.
17. Mr. R. Hogarth, Controller of Posts, was appointed to act as Deputy Postmaster General with effect from 30th August, 1958.
18. Mr. S. J. Hydes, Chief Postal Accountant, returned from home leave on 25th August, 1958.
19. Mr. G. A. Cuppleditch, Controller of Posts, Kowloon and New Territories, was transferred to Head Office, Hong Kong, on 30th August, 1958 and took up the combined duties of Controller of Posts, Hong Kong, and Kowloon and New Territories.
Promotion
20. Mr. MAK Sik Luen, Superintendent of Mails was promoted to an Assistant Controller of Posts on 24th August, 1958.
21. Mr. Abdul Aziz Malik, Postal Clerk Class I, was promoted Superintendent of Mails on 24th August, 1958.
Awards
22. Mr. H. E. Marriott, Assistant Controller of Posts, was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) on 1st January, 1959, for his long and faithful service to the Hong Kong Post Office.
23. An increase in clerical posts did much to relieve the acute staff position which existed but the intake of a large number of new recruits posed a training problem. However an 'in service' training programme was followed in addition to the voluntary postal training courses held
