New Issue

(a). A single common design (non-pictorial) for the denominations of

5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 cents.

Stamps to be size 19 mm. X 25 mm. in vertical format.

The design must be based on the Royal portrait and Crown. (b) Separate pictorial designs for each of the denominations of $1,

$2, $5, $10 and $20 (new value).

Stamps to be size 39 mm. X 25 mm. in either horizontal or vertical format.

The designs, which must include either the Royal Portrait and Crown or the Royal Cypher or the Crown alone, must be indicative of Hong Kong itself and not of the Far East in general, and where this is not apparent a caption should be added. Such subject as views of typical life or scenery in the New Territories, industry, the Tai Lam Chung reservoir, Hong Kong Harbour and other prominent landmarks are indicative, but these are only examples and, subject to the inclusion of the Royal Portrait and Crown or the Royal Cypher or the Crown, artists have complete freedom of design.

Other particulars of the competition are:

24. (i) The size of all drawings must be in the proportions given for the stamps but should not exceed 15× 10 inches for the large stamp or 8x10 inches for the small stamp.

(ii) The following prizes will be awarded for the best designs in each of the seven classes:

3rd Prize

Two Prizes of

$400 (£25)

$240 (£15)

$160 (£10)

$ 80 (£ 5)

(iii) All designs submitted will become the property of the Hong Kong Government.

(iv) The Government of Hong Kong reserves the right to make such use of the designs submitted as it may desire without further payment, and is not bound to use the winning design or any design submitted in the final drawings for the new issues.
