41. This growth in seasonal greetings of goodwill must universally be regarded as matter of commendation-even if opportunity is taken by many to continue trade advertisement under the guise of greetings-but it does pose tremendous problems both of staff and accommodation to all postal administrations.

Delivery Arrangements

42. Surveys of delivery arrangements continued in an effort to cope with building and resettlement development.

43. Six new delivery areas were introduced whilst Depart- mental deliveries were inaugurated to Cha Kwo Ling and Lyemun areas.

44. Consequent on the opening of the new Shamshuipo District Post Office in September, 1956, 22 delivery sections previously based on Kowloon Central Office were transferred to Shamshuipo.

45. Both myself and the Public must give full marks to the delivery postmen who carry out in a pleasant manner an arduous task in most difficult terrain.

Private Boxes

46. The demand for Post Office Boxes continued unabated, and despite the inconvenience, many city firms are taking up boxes in outlying Branch Post Offices rather than be without.

47. This factor plus the installation of additional Post Office Boxes in the new office at Shamshuipo had the effect of increasing revenue from this source to $132,642 or $10,642 over the Estimate.

REMITTANCE SERVICES

48. There were particularly heavy increases in this field, some of which must be ascribed to the introduction of higher valued Postal Orders of denominations of £3, £4 and £5, which have proved very popular, coupled with the extension of remittance services to Branch Post Offices.

49. Money Orders totalled 18,930 valued at $2,595,891 as against 16,045 valued at $2,424,891 in 1955/56 whilst Postal Orders dealt with were 124,487 valued at $2,749,520 as against 103,714 valued at $1,906,575 in the previous year.
