61. A new Branch Post Office was opened at Shatin in the New Territories on 18th October, 1955, by Mr. A. G. Crook, Acting Postmaster General. The opening was attended by Mr. K. M. A. Barnett, District Commissioner New Territories, and representatives of the local Kaifongs who were duly enter- tained to tea,

62. Following previous precedents, a temporary Post Office was opened at the 13th Exhibition of Hong Kong Products from 2nd December, 1955, to 2nd January, 1956. A special cancel- lation stamp was used and this office was well patronized.

63. Another gesture well appreciated by the passengers was the arrangement for special postal facilities on board the "Caronia" tourist vessel.

64. Hours of business at the Central Post Office, Kowloon, were extended to 6.00 p.m.

65. Considerable interest in the work of this Department is shown by local students in their civics study and during the year conducted tours were arranged for cadres from Wellington College, King's College, St. Francis' Convent and Maryknoll Convent.

RADIO LICENSING & INSPECTIONS

66. General. The reorganization of the Wireless Licensing Section referred to last year permitted a more intensive drive against unlicensed stations with highly satisfactory results.

67. Licences. The number of licences of all kinds in force at 31st March, 1956, was 54,933 including a record total of 54,073 Broadcast Receiving Licences, an increase of no less than 8,389 or over 18% on the figure for 1954/55. The increase was almost entirely due to the inspection drive referred to in the preceding paragraph,
