Recording facilities have been provided for a number of Radio Correspondents from overseas.

A special English and Chinese late news bulletin was broadcast during the summer and autumn but was discontinued when events in China became more settled. All other news services were maintained as in the previous year, with the addition of a relayed bulletin in Cantonese from the "Voice of America" beginning on March 16th, 1950.

The year has brought many distinguished personalities to broadcast from Radio Hong Kong.

Both local and United Kingdom sports broadcasts for the Forces have been greatly increased. Due to the kind co-operation of the Hong Kong Football Association, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and the Army, lines have been installed to three football grounds and to the race course. An outside broad- cast making use of a radio link provided by the Army was carried out when H.E. the Governor inspected troops at Sek Kong.

Several regular shows, making use of Service orchestras and bands, and Service artists, have been started since the reinforcement of the Garrison.

Technical.

Erection of the new studios is in an advanced state although considerable problems associated with air-conditioning and studio construction have had to be overcome.

Recordings have increased during the year by 150%.

Outside broadcasts have also increased. On the average nine outside broadcasts a week have been carried out.

Licences.

The number of wireless receiving licences increased from 33,459 on April 1st 1949 to 42,368 on March 31st 1950. The cost of wireless licences remained at $20.00.

Service has

The introduction of the Rediffusion appreciably augmented revenue from licences. Rediffusion subscribers who also have a Broadcasting Receiving Licence receive a rebate of $12.00 per annum.
