June, 1951. The Administration Offices had moved from the first to the second floor at the end of the year under review. Arrangements are being made for the Registration Branch to move to the first floor, the Parcels Branch to move from the basement to the ground and first floors, and the Chinese and General Delivery Postmen's Sections will be accom- modated on the mezzanine floors. The arrangements are not the best economically but they constitute the only possible arrangements under which present mail traffic can be handled in the existing buildings. In the main sorting office on the ground floor of the General Post Office and in the Kowloon Post Office, arrangements have been made to instal modern "48-box" short and large letter-sorting fittings and metal "drop-bag' packet fittings, of the same pattern as now used in the British Postal Service. These fittings, which are being manufactured locally in the Furniture Section of the Government Stores Department, will facilitate the rapid handling of the heavy arrivals of air and sea mails.
