Aeradio navigational aids continue to be operated with R.A.F. equipment, including a "Eureka " beacon, V.H.F. channels, and a V.H.F. Direction Finder.

Commercial Services.

These services continue to be engineered from Government Stations on behalf of Cable & Wireless.

The main expansion has been the inauguration of a long distance radiotelephone service to Manila, while similar tests have been carried out to Singapore, Colombo and Shanghai.

Additional receivers have been installed, and new aerials erected both for receiving and transmitting purposes.

Stations.

Cape D'Aguilar W[T. This station now has 14 transmitters installed for various services.

An auto sender has been installed to provide means for carrying on the overseas W/T services, in the event of landline failure.

Hunghom Radio. Nine telegraph transmitters of various sizes for air services are now installed.

Peak Radio. Twenty receivers are in use for commercial, press, and rebroadcasting.

A V.H.F. transmitter for projected Police Services has been installed and extensively tested on the Harbour Service.

Equipment for commercial V.H.F. radio telephone services to Canton and Macao is also now located on this site.

Broadcasting.

Two medium wave transmitters continue to provide a service for European and Chinese listeners, and a small shortwave transmitter is still in use.

Wire and disc recordings made in the studios, have been a feature, and daily rebroadcasts from London have been successful. Outside broadcasts from numerous places have been arranged, and transmissions of Sunday morning church services, were an addition during the year.

Line equipment for public address diffusion of programmes has been received, and is under test.

Domestic Services.

A main V.H.F. station and a number of mobile units have been received from England. A V.H.F. link is in full operation between the Harbour Office and Waglan, for the steamer reporting service; and between Waglan and Kai Tak air control tower for weather information.

Extensive investigations have been made in Hongkong and the New Territories, using V.H.F. equipment, with a view to the provision of a police radio system, to cover the whole Colony.
