(6) A general notice given in writing to the Secretary by a member to the effect that he or his spouse is a member or in the employment of a specified company or other body, or that he or his spouse is a partner or in the employment of a specified person, shall, unless and until the notice is withdrawn, be deemed to be a sufficient disclosure of his interest in any contract, proposed contract or other matter relating to that company or other body or to that person which may be the subject of consideration after the date of the notice.

(7) The Secretary shall record in a book to be kept for the purpose particulars of any disclosure made under subsection (1), and of any notice given under subsection (6), and the book shall be open at all reasonable hours to the inspection of any member of the Council.

(8) Any person who fails to comply with subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable to a fine of $10,000 for each offence, unless he proves that he did not know that a contract, proposed contract, or other matter in which he had a pecuniary interest was the subject of consideration at the meeting.

(9) No prosecution of an offence under this section shall be instituted without the consent of the Attorney General.

(10) The Council may by standing orders provide for the exclusion of a member from a meeting of the Council or any committee whilst any contract, proposed contract or other matter in which he has an interest to which this section applies is under consideration.

(11) In this section "committee" includes the standing committee and any select committee or sub-committee appointed under section 35. (Added 9 of 1986 s. 9)

CHAIRMAN

Council to elect Chairman and Vice-Chairman

20. (1) The Council, at the first meeting of the standing committee held in the month following an ordinary election, shall elect a Chairman and a Vice-Chairman in accordance with the procedure set out in the Fifth Schedule. (Replaced 84 of 1988 s. 10)

(2) The election of a member as Chairman or as Vice-Chairman shall not create a vacancy on the Council and such member shall hold office as Chairman or Vice-Chairman, as the case may be, only as long as he is a member of the Council. (Replaced 44 of 1981 s. 10)

(3)-(4) (Repealed 44 of 1981 s. 10)

(5) No person shall assume office as Chairman or Vice-Chairman until he has completed a declaration of acceptance of such office in the form prescribed in the Third Schedule and delivered the same to the Secretary. (Amended 44 of 1981 s. 10)
