MERCHANT SHIPPING (TANKERS-OFFICERS AND RATINGS) REGULATIONS

1.

These regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Tankers--Officers and Ratings) Regulations.

Citation.

2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires-

"Certification Regulations" means the Merchant Shipping (Certification of Officers) Regulations;

"Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk" means the 1980 edition of a publication by that name of the International Maritime Organization, together with any Supplement thereto and any amendment specified by the Director of Marine by notice in the Gazette;

"discharge book" includes a Service Record Book;

"employer" means the person for the time being employing a master;

"liquefied gas" means any liquefied gas listed in Chapter XIX of the Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Liquefied Gas in Bulk published by the International Maritime Organization in 1976, together with any Supplement thereto published by that Organization, and any amendment specified by the Director of Marine by notice in the Gazette;

"liquid chemical" means any liquid chemical listed in Chapter VI of the Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk published by the International Maritime Organization in 1980, together with any Supplement thereto published by that Organization and any amendment specified by the Director of Marine by notice in the Gazette;

"petroleum" means crude liquid petroleum and the following substances produced directly or indirectly from crude, that is to say, fuels, lubricants, bitumen, wax, industrial spirits and any substance whose final boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure is more than 50°C higher than its initial boiling point, but excluding any product included in the definition of "liquefied gas";

"qualified" means qualified in accordance with regulation 5;

"sea-going tanker" means a tanker other than one which navigates exclusively in inland waters or in areas where port regulations apply;
