Approval of subsequent principals.

Functions of principal.

57. (1) If in the case of any school-

(a) the Director refuses under section 54 to approve a teacher

who has been recommended to be the principal;

(b) the principal ceased under section 55 to hold office;

(d) the principal is no longer acceptable as such to the majority

of the management committee,

the management committee shall within 1 month recommend for the approval of the Director another teacher of the school to be the principal.

(2) Subject to section 54, the Director shall approve as the principal of the school the teacher who is recommended under subsection (1).

58. (1) The principal of a school shall, subject to the directions of the management committee, be responsible for the teaching and discipline of the school and for such purposes shall have authority over the teachers and pupils of the school.

(2) The Director may address the principal of a school on any matter relating to the teaching and discipline in the school, and in such case the principal shall conduct correspondence directly with the Director.

APPEALS

59. (1) For the purposes of this Part, there shall be an Appeals Board appointed in accordance with subsection (2).

(2) The Governor shall by notice in the Gazette appoint--

(a) not less than 9 persons as members of the Appeals Board,

of whom at least 3 shall be registered teachers;

(b) one of the persons appointed under paragraph (a) as

chairman of the Appeals Board.

(3) A member of the Appeals Board shall hold office for such period as may be specified in such notice.

(4) Subject to subsection (5), 5 members of the Appeals Board shall be a quorum.

(5) The Appeals Board shall not hear or determine any appeal concerning the registration of a teacher or the cancellation of the registration of a teacher unless at least 3 of the members comprising the quorum are registered teachers.
