1. These regulations may be cited as the Building (Refuse Storage Chambers and Chutes) Regulations.

2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires-

"aggregate usable floor space" in relation to a composite building means the aggregate of the usable floor space of the domestic building component of that composite building and one third of the usable floor space of the non-domestic building component of that composite building;

"approved" means approved by the Building Authority;

"church" means a building constructed or intended to be used principally for the purpose of religious worship;

"collection authority" means-

(a) in respect of the urban areas, the Urban Council; and

(b) in respect of the New Territories (excluding New Kowloon), the Director of Urban Services;

"external wall" means an outer wall of a building not being a party wall, even though adjoining a wall of another building;

"floor area" means-

(a) in relation to a composite building, the aggregate usable floor space; or

(b) in relation to any other building, the usable floor space;

"foul water" has the meaning assigned to it by the Building (Standards of Sanitary Fitments, Plumbing, Drainage Works and Latrines) Regulations;

"hopper" means the fitment on a refuse chute into which refuse is placed and from which it is projected into the chute;

"industrial building" means-

(a) a godown; or

(b) a building in which articles are manufactured, altered, cleaned, repaired, ornamented, finished, adapted for sale, broken up or demolished, or in which materials are transformed;

"open air" has the meaning assigned to it by the Building (Planning) Regulations;

"plan" means a plan submitted to the Building Authority for approval under section 14 of the Ordinance;
