WHEREAS, on account of the abolition of the office of Sheriff, it is necessary to make provision for the performance of certain duties in connexion with the execution of criminal sentences formerly attaching to the said office :

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice of the Legislative Conneil thereof, as follows:

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Sheriff's (Performance of Short title. Duties) Ordinance, 1884.

All such duties in relation to the execution of any sentence or Superinten- judgment imposed or awarded by any Court or Judge exercising dent of Gaol criminal jurisdiction in this Colony as attached to the office of Sheriff with duties of at the time of the passing of Ordinance No. 22 of 1882, entitled "An Ordinance to amend the Supreme Court Ordinance, 1873," namely, the divince No. 3 19th day of December, 1882, and in respect of which no other provision has been made at the commencement of this Ordinance, shall, from and after the commencement of this Ordinance, be attached to the office of Superintendent of Victoria Gaol, and shall be discharged by the person for the time being acting in that office or his lawful deputy.
