Forgery of Deeds, Wills, Bills of Exchange, etc.

22. Every person who, with intent to defraud,-- (1.) forges or alters, or offers, utters, disposes of, or puts off, knowing the same to be forged or altered, any deed, or any bond or writing obligatory, or any assignment at law or in equity of any such bond or writing obligatory; or (2.) forges any name, handwriting, or signature of a witness attesting the execution of any deed, bond, or writing obligatory; or (3.) offers, utters, disposes of, or puts off any deed, bond, or writing obligatory having thereon any such forged name, handwriting, or signature, knowing the same to be forged, shall be guilty of felony, and, being convicted thereof, shall be liable, at the discretion of the Court, to imprisonment with hard labour for life or for any term not less than three years or to imprisonment for any term not exceeding two years, with or without hard labour and with or without solitary confinement.
