No. 10 of 1868.
An Ordinance to amend Ordinance No. 11 of 1844, and to enable the Justices of the Peace to grant Licences for the Sale of Fermented and Spirituous Liquors by Hotel Keepers, Restaurateurs and Confectioners.

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the law relating to the licensing of public houses, and to give power to Justices of the Peace to grant licences for the sale by retail of fermented and spirituous liquors by persons carrying on the business of hotel keepers, restaurateurs and confectioners: Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
1. There shall be added to section 2 of Ordinance No. 11 of 1844 the words, excepting in such cases wherein it may be desirable to grant licences for a shorter period than one year, in order that such licences shall always expire on the 30th November.
2. There shall be added to section 7 of the said Ordinance No. 11 of 1844, the words hereafter mentioned, that is to say: Provided always that in cases wherein licences are granted for any period less than one year, there shall be payable only a proportionate amount of the said sum of three hundred dollars with ten per cent added.
3. Notwithstanding anything contained in Ordinance No. 11 of 1844, it shall be lawful for the Justices of the Peace to grant licences for the sale of fermented and spirituous liquors by retail to persons carrying on the business of hotelkeepers, restaurateurs, or confectioners, and the forms of application, recognizance, certificate and licence shall, when persons carry on such business as aforesaid, be in the forms contained in the schedule hereunto annexed, marked respectively E, F, G, and H.
