An Ordinance to amend "The Bankruptcy Ordinance, 1864."

WHEREAS circumstances occasionally arise which render it inexpedient that the Registrar of the Supreme Court should be the Official Assignee as provided by section 6 of "The Bankruptcy Ordinance, 1864" Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

1. It shall be lawful for the Governor whenever he shall deem it expedient to nominate and appoint some person other than the Registrar of the Supreme Court to be the Official Assignee of the estate and effects of a bankrupt, which said person shall be the Official Assignee of the estate and effects of such bankrupt; Provided always that nothing herein contained shall protect the Registrar of the Supreme Court from any action or suit which may be brought against him for any thing done or omitted to be done previous to the appointment of some person as aforesaid by the Governor.

2. In citing this Ordinance, it shall be sufficient to use the expression "The Bankruptcy Amendment Ordinance, 1867."

3. This Ordinance shall commence and take effect on such day as shall hereafter be fixed by proclamation under the hand of the Governor. [In force from the 7th December, 1867, under Proclamation of the same date.]

WHEREAS it is expedient that stringent measures should be adopted for the suppression of piracy: Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

1. This Ordinance shall commence and take effect on such day as shall hereafter be fixed by proclamation under the hand of the Governor.
