great Jack which he had imposed upon himself of civilising his subjects. This prince having ex- pressed a wish that a Danish consul should be no- minated in the Sandwich lalands, M. Bille charged M. Sewerkop, partner of the German house of Schinner & Co., of Honolulu, to undertake pravi sionally the functions of concular agent of Denmark. M. Bille gave a dinner and ball on board the G. latea, at which the King, Queen, and the royal fa mily, the foreign compol, and the officers of the English and French vessels of war in the port, were present.
