The River PLATE-The fullowing from Monte | the year's export mot mills. At present there is no vessel actually loading, so that we shall have no greater quantity till next season, which commences on 1st July, One small chop of the new crop has been shipped to London and one to Liverpool, and ainee 20 or 30 chops are offering, with samples of several more to arrive in two or three weeks. It is expected that about 20 tuels will be the average price of the fine chops when the market opens--though, as usual, the Teamon are at present holding out for much bigher rates. It is expected that their present firmness will result beneficially to the foreign buyer, as every week will increase the glock, and render s more independent of the present holders. Although some few chops will leave very early this seas in, there is no reason to expect any extensive ship- ments going in for some time, as the orders by the April mail must have brought very low liinits, which can only be carried out by prudent and cautious buying In old Tea about 50 chops com. mon Congou aill remain, which may be bad at 12 to 15 lacls. A few thousands sach of Caper and Plain Orange Pekoe, for which there are no offers. About 4000 half chests of Scented Orange Pekce of common quality, at from 23 to 95; while the stock of coinmon and good Inky, common Flyson, Canton Young Hyson, and common and Canton Imperial and Gunpowder is large, and with pre- sent prospects at home are scarcely likely to find purchasers, unless some great declive takes place in the prices demanded by the Teamen.

It a gratifying to notice the falling off in the export of Green Tea, which is nearly five millions short compared with last season. The total of Black and Green is shutt by 44 milla.

A larger than asual supply of the new crop of Tsatlee is expected, and the market will open at about $380 for the best quality. The crop in Booking and Taysaam is bad, and the quantity brought forward for ex- port will be limited

LEGAL IMPUNITY FOR CRIME. {rom the Spectator, April 3.)

The condition of this imhappy country is wretched in the extreme. Santa Ana had gathered an im- nense army at San Luis Potosi. There has been several file of snow there, and the soldiery were hut poorly fed, and worse clothed. The repeated Newark (and State of New Jersey) demands made by Santa Anna on his government, for supplies, bad caused several appeals to be made 10 the patriotism of the Mexicans-but in vain"; few were disposed to make lo-os, Santa Anna had been obliged to allay the nurmurs of his soldiers, by making levies of the citizens, agst giving them his personal securities that they should be remune Tated. On the 27th Jansary, Santa Anna annon. red by letter his plan; the plan is in brief. 18,000 men to occupy the road between Salilo and Mon- terey; 1,500 to march upon Monterey; 1,500 to proceed to Victoria, and thence to Sistanioras. Thus if we can believe the Mexicans themselves, Ruota Anna is to get in behind our furces and cut up our posts, while General Sect is blazing away et Vera Cruz, In other words, Baula Agua is to abandon that great sea port and its fortress to the Americans, in order to obtain temporary success in the north! The General in an entgins! Overcome by the importunities of Santa A and the Government issued a demand on the clergy, for $15,000,000 i to be gained, if by on gentler aneans, by the sale of the church property. Of the fifteen millions, ten were thus apportioned: On the church property in the federal state of Mexico, $4,750,000; Queretaro, #200,000; San Laiz $10.000; Vera Cruz, 40,000;

and $3,250,000

The very falty and perverse work our cri minal law has just been illustrated by curious case at the Liverpool Assizes. A Mrs Julason was ac- cused of poisoning her husband with arsenic. In evidence it appeared that the woman he habitual. ly faithless to her conjugai vows, openly declaring her preference for an olderman, and her wish to get rid of Jahusin; that he had died rather sud- denty, of symptoms that might indicate poison). and that when the body was exbumed, it exhibited traces of arsenic, but very minute, some, hut very unsatisfactory evidence that the woman had bought poison; the evidence as to the nemal cause of Johnson's death was doubtful, and the woman was acquittred. The Jory acted pro perly. There was no real proof that the man had died of poison, or that the wife had administered
