Consul requests the community in future to address the Consul on all official business, and not an officer of the Consulate, and that ali papers issued from, and signed by an officer of the Congu. late, may be receive as emanating from the Con- sul; replies thereto must nevertheless be addressed! to the Consul, and not to the officer who may have. signed the communication.

All communications from firms to the Consul must be signed by the firm or soige one duly au thorized to siga, but for whose signature the firm is fully responsible, and all papers sent from the Consulate on the business of any firm must nces- anrily be addressed to that firm In the transac- tion of business verbal communications are some- times found useful, but they should be resorted to as seldom as possible written communications he- ing always preferable even after verbal explanations have taken place.

It is requested that all letters on business may be commenced by "Sir" and that all applications sent to the Consulate may bear on the outside of the envelope "On Service."
