With the death of these three persons, the revenge of the bloodthirsty Soldiery seems to have been satisfied for the time. They kept the Maharajah however, and the Ranes, in the camp during the whole night, but allowed them to return to the fort about ten on the following morning (22nd inzam) also releasing the Chiefs Deewan Deens Nath, Bukhsheg Buggut Ram and the Attareewallah Sir. dar, Rajah Lall Singh, who had, it appears, return- el in Lahore with Juwaheer Singh on the 8th, and who is on all hands declared to be the paramour of prisoner, and

The bodies of the late Wuzeer, Sir- dar Jawaheer Singh, and of his two fellow suf- ferers were publicly burnt on the afternoon of the been made the gene of so many frightfull tragedies and of one on the present occasion still more fright- ful, if possible. Three, or according to another account of this disgusting event, four women wero burnt with the bodies, and, most shocking to relate. such was the disgraceful capacity of the villainous mob surrounding the funeral pyres, that not only
