For these reasons the amount of business has been somewhat more contracted, as many are calculating on a decline in prices. The absence of stocks of all descriptions of our staple. fabrica, and the circumstance that manufacturers and spinners are for the most part engaged with contracts, will tend to uphold the present currency. There was a considerable change in the state of the yarn market; the animation which pre- vailed a few days ago having entirely subsided, in consequence of the sudden cessation of purchases for the German markets caused by the announcement that the Congress of the Zollvereins had brought its deliberations to a clona without imposing any addi- tional duty on cotton twist.
