To the Editor of the Friend of China.
7th November, 1845.
The Meteorological Register which we are in the course of publishing for the year ending with August 1845, may be useful to Commanders of vessels on the coast, as the Register of the past, appears as near as possi ble; at a corresponding period of the present year. The letters denoting the state of the weather, and the figures the strength of the wind, may not be generally understood, and we are, through the politenes of the Gentle man who kept it, enabled to publish the key, which appears sufficiently simple.
BIR. By the colonial regulations, each func. tionary's position is marked out as per enclosure Can your enlighten me as to the proper portion of the Admiral, Brigadier, and Chinese Secretary in this Colony. I have heard much discussion re cently on these points, and some persous have gone so far as to say that the Admiral cannot take pre cedence of the members of the executive Council, which you know rank inferior to the Legislative, and the accompanying copy from the Colonial Re6. gulations leaves that matter beyond a doubt, but e. where should be the Admiral's proper place in this d. Colony, in event of any procession before Crowned heads, or Imperial Mandarins of the blood royalg. eccurring. Should you have space and time perhaps 2. you will be good enough to afford us a sound opinion 1. on a point, which (though not of mich moment) m. may if cleared up and fully defined prevent ill feel. ing in some quarters.
Pray forgive my being thas troublesome.
