There was another attempt at insurrection in Madrid on 5th Sept, ;, it was promptly repressed by the troop. Only one officer was killed. The Heraldo says, that the plan of the insurgents was to seize on the park of artillery, the Post office, the Custom-house, and other points; to set at liberty the prisoners, and to murder the authorities. They also expected to be joined by a portion of the gar-kins, rison. An officer of the Reina Gobermadora regi, ment had been arrested, and was to be tried by court-martial. The last news from Tahiti," says La Presse, His far from satisfactory. Up to the present, Queen Pomare, a docile and simple instrament of the Pro testant missionaries, has not accepted at our hands the portion of power which we offered. Far from it. In permancat rebellion against our establisment, this unfortunate woman places in our path every imaginable difficulty, the only way to remove which would be to establish French sovereignty in the country. All competent judges who have return. ed from those distant countries are agreed in pro. testing against rendering the interior sovereignty to Queen Pomare, inasmuch as it is in reality giving it to the raissionaries The Government hoped that the recal of Mr Pritchard would change the aspect of affairs, However, such was not the ease; our position is at present just as perilous as it was during the sojouro of that firebrand. Several English sloops continue to hover near the island in order to keep up the effervesence. We do not know what the actual projects of the Ministry may be never theless we think we may say that the Times, in an- nouncing that the French Cabinet had decided opon evacuating Tahiti and the Marquesa, merely states what it would wish to see. No such a resolution has not been taken. When France once decides upon planting her flag in any place, she does not do. it for the purpose of affording her enemies and those who envy her the pleasure of seeing her succumb to difficulties.......
