I am satisfied that such unprecedented, barefaced Effrontery of the Man of W such ignorance and fawning sycophaney of the Alan of law, and such intolerable persecution of the Man of peace will be properly denounced in your Edis torials, if not 1 small trouble you again on the subject.

SENTENCE

Fyne, second master of the Vestal, wounded

It is to be hoped, that the severe lesson they have received, will for a time intimidate the pirates of Borneo, but nothing short of a European settle ment, with a garrison and one or two small steam "TO PAY A FINE OF TWENTY DOLLARS TO THE Vessels of war permanently on the coast, will effec tually drive the pirates from their present haunts QUBEN

Two Spaniards escaped, and were taken to Manila. They had been for years in bondage after having been captured and their comrades murdered by the pirates of Maludn bay,

The injustice of the sentence cannot be sur- passed. In the first place, every citizen has the same right to enjoy himself in the company of his friends, even by singing, that the Hon. Ma- jor General has in the second, the Hon. Major General has no control over the police, and any order from him was worthless in the third, the police acting upon his orders committed a breach of the peace in entering Mr Welch's house and behaving insolently, and had he Licked them down stairs, he would only have done that, which many will do, under similar circumstances.

We beg to draw the attention of the Hon. Attorney General to this case. It appears to us that the policemen committed willful and deliberate perjury, with the wicked and ins- lignant intention of having a citizen punished for daring to o assert his rights. If such pros ceedings are permitted to pass unpunished, or unnoticed, the inhabitants of Hongkong may be insulted by every member of the govern ment, who will be protected in his iniquity by a servile Magistracy.

Our contemporary of the Register, denies that the post Master has shown partiality in the delivery of his letters and papers. Personally, we don't care a fig whether the post Master display partiality to him or not, all that we ask for is that our letters and papers be delivered as early as those addressed to other people. It is of the injustice done in retaining our papers for days that we complain; and we proved that such was the case, by the fact of the Register having extracts in type from one to two days We do not before our papers were received. very clearly understand what the Register means by his allusion to Bombay periodicals coming by different ships.
