(From the Singapore Free Press, May 29.) SAILING DIRECTIONS.

The Borneans are an inquisitive unoffending people and with proper treatment will never pre- sume to insult or offer the slightest offence to an CochinealTM on the Rajah Mudah Hassan and Pangeran Bu dradeen his brother, and state candidly what they require taking, and at the same time not let them have any goods without payment. They mean well but have no principle and will take goods at any price rather the be debarred of them: endea- Four to get the Rajah to open the trade at once with the Nekodabs and it would pay well to make a handsome present to the head men if they do so; give also a salute if possible, as any little attention will facilitate you in getting a cargo with despatch.

A Malay has no idea of the value of time and weeks or months make no difference so long as you get a cargo eventually,

The climate is very healthy and good water is to be procured from a sping opposite the south part of Pulo Choriman or the West bank of the river:go there at half flood as at high water the tide flows into the basin in which is the spring.

Antimony Ore is at pressent the chief article of commerce but when the resources of the country are known and opened I have no doubt many others will be found worth the attention of enterprising individuals.

W. from it; then steer E N E. and pass be tween Tanjong Apee and Pulo Morandam or Low island which cannot be seen about 9 miles distant from the deck of a modernlely sized vessel.

In passing Tanjong Apee do not sight the sandy beach, and be careful not to bring the bluff point of Tanjong Datu to bear to Northward of E. by N. Tanjong A pee is low having a slightly raised point which cannot be seen from the deck further than 15 miles, a shoal runs off about 2 miles and a half which is rockly in various parts. Great care ought to be observed in rounding this point at night hav. ing first had a sight of St. Pierres Tanjong Apee is in Long. 109 22' E Lat. F. 67' N.

Pulo Morundam or Low island is a small low is land slightly elevated in its centre, a reef runs near Jy 2 miles W. N. W. of it and to the Northward many shoals and coral patches are said to exist. In running past the island (being South of it; give a good mile's berth and never attempt to pass to the Northward as the Katharine Steward Forbes ground. ed on a coral patch in its vicinity to the N. I took the following bearings at the time I was on it. Tanjong Datu, South. Talang, Talang, Major, S. E. by S. † S. Double Peak of Santebong S. E. by E.E.

I have passed Datu many times in a strong N. E Monsoon with a heavy swell, yet never saw a breaker on the shoal, yet probably that may occur some in seasons.

Tanjong Datu is a high bluff point having rocks visible half a mile off it, it is in lat. 2.7 N. long,

When round Datu-if bound to Sarawak steer E. by SS, to pass Lepang point at 4 miles distant, es a rock with only 2 feet water on it, bears N by W 31 miles from the point. Lepang is in lat. 1 60 N. long. 110 22 30 E.

From Sarawak to Borneo Proper having got clear of the channel steer N E N for Tanjong Sirik a very low point of land off which is a shot bank the approaches to which are very regular: do not now even in working go under 5 fs. Tanjong Sirik is in long. 111. 40 E. lat. 2, 52 N.--being very low great care ought to be paid to the lead at night which is a safe guide. From Sirik 5 miles distant steer N E by N to pass Tanjong Barrain at a corresponding distance.

The bay between these points is safe and holds many large rivers and two ranges of mountains, Talow, Bolinien, Lambere and Si Lingere. Ta Horsburoo's Chart are marked, Burning, Whale and the Comades taland which are all nigins as I passed over the position assigned to them without seeing any thing to indicate. However the Luconia shoals and many others do exist in the parallel of 54 North to the Westward of Barram

Tanjong Barram is a low point also having a reef of rocks stretching 6 miles S W. into the bay consequently out of much moment unless you hap pen to get inside during thick weather.
