We extremely regret to notice the state of the tea market, and the decline in the prices of some descriptions. The exports from China to Great Britain for the year ending 30th in- stant will be two millions of pounds weight greater than the previous year, while the con- sumption at home has very little increased. Failing a reduction in duty and a much greater demand for the herb, we fear that the sanguine expectations which are entertained by manu- factures will be sadly disappointed. The Silk market is also dull; and it is evident that both these staples of Chinese export have been ship ped to the full extent or to a greater extent than the demand would warrant.

This mail brings nothing of a particularly exciting nature; parliament being still engaged in discussion on the Tariff. 4th Drag. Guards. -A fatal accident occurred to Lieut. M. K. Tynte on the 27th Feb., at Kilcash. A steeple chase was to have taken place between the officers of the garrison quartered at Clonnel, previous to the race Mr. Tynte was amusing him and some of the neighbouring gentlemen, and

selfjumping his horse over a bar held by two of the country people, when the latter, on Lieut. Tynte's horse rising to take the jump, raised the pole, which striking the animal on the knee turned him completely over, and rolling heavily on its rider injured him to such an extent that all who witnes sed the accident concluded the gallant rider was killed on the spot. The police, who were at hand, having extricated Lient. Tynte, procured a door and carried him on their shoulders about half-way between Kilcash and..Clonnel, where a party of Dragoons, who were sent off on cars to meet him, conveyed him to his quarters. The affairs of New Zealand have also been brought before parliament. It is al leged that Captain Fitzroy, the Governor, has mismanaged the colony. It is said an attempt was made to shoot Prince Albert; thongh the truth of the report is more than questionable. The Examiner reminds that this was not Prince Albert's first alarm; on his visit to Bristol to see the Great Britain a young lady threw a rose-bad at his Royal Highness, which was mistaken for a red hot

shot.

The propriety of erecting some testimonial to mark the services of the late Capt. Connolly has been noticed by the Court of Directors of the Hon. East India Company. It has been postponed until the return of the Reverend Dr. Wolff.

It is understood that the Duke of Wellington has urged strongly upon the Premier the pro- priety of erecting harbours of refuge capable of admitting large vessels at all states of the tide. Surveys have been made to determine the best situations; and though Sir Robert Pcel does not look upon it as a measure of, immediate necessity, it is believed he will soon avail himself of these surveys.
