EMIGRATION DISTRICTS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM,

Lieutenant-Colonel Fawcett was one of those very fow in whose favour the tide of fortune had strongly. set. He entered the army by the purchase of an Eu. nigncy in the 55th, on the 6th of April, 1826, purchased

Lieutenancy on the 21st November, 1828; and on of the Culonjal, Press, and circulates through the whole of the The 21st November, 1834, he obtained a company, ithout purchase in succession to Lieutenant Colonel fill, who was killed in action at Coorg. IMPROVED TRAVELLING IN Eøvet. Extract of fetter dated Alexandria, 20th June, 1813:- "It gives me great pleasure in taking a retrospect of the last twelve months, during which time I have crossed the entire of Egypt thirteen times, and as faràs Cairo no fewer than twenty-nine times, to bear tes- timony to the amazing change that has been wrought in the system and means of transit. At that time the means and arrangements for the canal na. vigation were of the most wretched description, and, amid inconveniences and scenes of the most repulsive nature, passengers were obliged spend twelve or fifteen hours huddled together within a space not fit for the accommodaiton of half the numb veyed. Instead of two, there are now five canal passage boats in use, and two steam-tugs,, besides forty-eight horses. This improvement has enor mous advantages, but will be felt most by those who have travelled under both circumstances. On the Nile, instead of one there are four steam-boats, three of which are well fitted, commodious and exceed ingly fleet, The desert too

their arrival in the Colonies.

The EMIGRATION Gazette and Colonial Auvodite has always devoted its pages to advocating the various Colonial interests, not only affording to the intending Emigrant the fullest stores of information respecting the climate, soil, productions, commerce, and various advantages of each particular Colony, and promoting to the greatest extent, the various streame of Emigration to their shores; but also, in the fairest and fullest manner, advocating the Colonial interests at home, so that they may be kept constantly before the public eye, their grievances redreseed, abuses removed end discouraged, and the greatest possible advantages secured, The efforts of this Paper being thus constantly devoted to prevent and direct it to the British Colonies, the Proprietor confidendy the Emigration of British capital and industry to foreign countries urges his claim to the support of the Colonial community, and solicita the subacriptions and advertisements of British Colonists to this Paper
