THE Contract hitherto in force for the publication of GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATIONS having ceased on the 21st instant. -Notice is hereby given, that the. HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, this day established, will be hereafter the only Official Organ of Proclamations, Notifications, and all Public Papers of this Government.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
The subjoined Notice to Chinese Boatmen is published for general information, and it is requested that boats irregularly plying for hire be reported at once to the Police. Regarding fares, attention is directed to Section 15 of Ordinance No. XI of 1845.

HARBOUR MASTER'S OFFICE, Hongkong, 30th August, 1854.
It is hereby Notified that Licenses for Boats to ply for hire in the Harbour, between 9 o'clock at night and midnight, will be granted to Twenty Boatmen, who are already licensed, on their application at the Harbour Master's Office, between the hours of 10 o'clock in the morning and 4 o'clock in the afternoon, on Monday, the 4th of September next, and that after that date any Boat- men found plying for hire after 9 o'clock at night, without such License, will be apprehended and punished.
As the number of applicants may exceed the prescribed number, preference will be giyen to Boat- men of the longest standing with good characters.
