GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

THE Contract hitherto in force for the publication of GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATIONS having ceased on the 21st instant -Notice is hereby given, that the HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, this day established, will hereafter the only Official Organ of Proclamations, Notifications, and all Public Papers of this Government.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency Sir JOHN BOWRING, Knight, Her Britannic Majesty's Plenipotentiary and Chief Superintendent of the Trade of British Subjects in China, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by the provisions of the Act of Parliament passed in the 59th Year of GEORGE III, c. 69, it is made a misdemeanor punishable by fine and imprisonment for any of Her Majesty's Subjects to enter the service of any foreign state, except with the previous leave and licence of Her Majesty given under the Sign Manual, or by Order in Council, or Proclamation: Now I the said Sir JOHN BOWRING do hereby call the attention of all British Subjects in China to the provisions of the said Act, and declare that its penalties will be rigidly enforced.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The attention of Merchants, Ship-masters, and others interested or engaged in Emigration is specially directed to the following prominent conditions required by the Passengers' Act 1852, and it is hereby notified that the said Act will be enforced in this Colony, so far as circumstances will permit.

1.-No Passenger Ship shall clear out and proceed to Sea, without a Certificate from the Emi- gration Officer that the requirements of the Act have been sufficiently complied with. By infringe- ment of this injunction the Ship is subjected to forfeiture in whatever British Port she may be found within two Years after the commission of the offence.

2.-Every such Ship must be pronounced Seaworthy by a Government Surveyor.

3. The space allotted for the accommodation of Passengers shall be not less than Twelve Super- ficial Feet for each Person.

4. The Provisions and Water must be surveyed and found of good quality and sufficient for the voyage.

5.-A List of Passengers must be prepared in duplicate for signature by the Emigration Officer. 6. The Government Gazette of 31st December, 1853, contains the required scale of Provisions and Medicines. A copy of this Gazette and of the Passengers' Act may be seen at the Office of the Chief Magistrate of Police.
