GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

HE Contract hitherto in force for the publication of GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATIONS having ceased on the 21st instant, -Notice is hereby given, that the HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE, this day established, will be hereafter the only Official Organ of Proclamations, Notifications, and all Public Papers of this Government.

By Order,

Victoria, Hongkong, 24th September, 1853.

W. CAINE, Colonial Secretary.

The Chilian barque Libertad, Lundborg Master, on her passage from San Francisco to this port discovered a very dangerous reef between the Island Sariquam and Tores rock off the Ladrones. On the 7th of January, while observing the Sun's Meridian Altitude, heavy breakers were suddenly seen within two or three Cables' length of the ship, and several rocks were visible even with the water's edge. The reef seemed to extend in a northerly direction for half a mile. The latitude of the reef by very accurate observation is 16° 53′ 35" North, and longitude 146° 3' 30" East, bearing from the centre of Sariquam island N. 11° 30' E. There were fresh trades blowing at the time, and some sea running, otherwise it is very probable it would have been passed without notice.

E. R. MICHELL, Acting Harbour-Master.
