GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION. The subjoined Translation of a Proclamation issued to Chinese Community of Hongkong by His Excellency JOHN BOWRING, Governor and Commander-in-Chief,

&c., &c., is published for general information.

hereas the Island of Hongkong is a part of the Dominious of Britain, and governed by its Laws: as the people of every in whatsoever thereto resorting, either to reside or to trade, are

It being deemed right to make public without loss of time the prohibitions of the law affecting this offence Notice is hereby given to all the Inhabitants of the Colony, that any person, whether Chi- nese or of any other nation, detected in making, planning, or arrang ing an Attack of a Warlike character upon any person in any part of China, will be proceeded against with the utmost rigour of the Law. Such of you, the Chinese Population, as continue to pursue your avocations in peace, will have the benefit of protection as heretofore; but those who, ungrateful for that protection, presume to make use of this Colony as a place in which they may assemble to contrive Sedition, shall be handed over, the moment they are discovered, to the Chinese authorities to be dealt with. The warning given, it will be followed by the execution of the Law. Let every one at- tend and obey!

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified, that His Excellency The Governor and Commander-in-Chief, in consequence of the temporary indisposition of The Honorable JOHN WALTER HULME, Esquire, Chief Justice, has, under his Hand and Seal of the Colony, appointed The Honorable WILLIAM THOMAS BRIDGES, Esquire, Acting Attorney General, to be Presi- dent, and The Honorable WILLIAM THOMAS MERCER, Esquire, Colonial Secretary, and The Honorable Lieuten- ant-Colonel HENRY HOPE GRAHAM, Commanding the Forces, to be members of a Commission to discharge the Office of Chief Justice at the next ensuing Criminal Ses sions, and no longer; and His Excellency has been further pleased to appoint, under Ordinance No. 6 of 1846, Henry KINGSMILL, Esquire, Barrister-at-Law, to perform the duties of Attorney General at the Sessions aforesaid.

Land sales.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION. Notice is hereby given, that a Sale of Crown Lands will be held by Public Auction on the 16th November next ensuing, at which will be offered for competition, in two Marine Lots, that parcel of Ground Northward of the Supreme Court-house and Post-office.

Also in four Marine Lots, each of about One Hundred Feet frontage, a certain portion of the Ground extending Eastward from the Harbour-master's Boat-house, together ed to the protection of the British Government, so is no one of with other Lots in Caine Road and Wanchi, the whole as "no matter to what nation belonging, exempt from punishment | per annexed Schedule.
