The loss of the Powhatan, was as follows :-
Two Seamen killed.
One Seaman mortally wounded,—since dead. One Marine dangerously wounded by a shot. Six Marines and seamen severely burnt.
Two Officers, Lieutenants Pegram and Rolando, and one
Seaman, slightly burnt.
Total Americans,—13.
H. M. S. S. Rattler:—
One Gunner Royal Mar. Art., and two Seamen, killed. Two Marines and two Scamen, severely burnt. Three Marines and Seamen, slightly burnt.
One Marine, missing.
The loss of the Chinese amount to 10 Vessels burnt, 6 recaptured Junks, about 180 Guns destroyed, and I should think at least 500 men killed out of 1000 men engaged at the commencement of the attack. I have, &c.,
