GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

[MAY 9, 1857.

At a Meeting of the Executive Council held on the 4th instant, it appearing that under existing circumstances there is no necessity for retaining the Services of the Military Officers who had kindly undertaken to perform the duties of Justices of the Peace during the period of peril to the public safety

It was Resolved, that the thanks of the Governor in Council be conveyed to Lieut.-Colonel Dunlop, Cap. tains Romer and Rotton, for the Magisterial Services they had rendered to this Government, during a time of anxiety and danger; and that, in consequence of the now changed circumstances of the Colony, they be relieved from the exercise of their functions as Justices of the Peace, from this date.

In conformity with the above Resolution, His Excellency the Governor has withdrawn the names of Lieut.- Colonel Dunlop, Captains Rotton and Romer, from the Commission of the Peace.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency The Governor having approved of the following Division of the Colony into Districts (and in the case of Victoria into Sub-districts), as made by the Registrar General, under the provisions of Section VII of Ordinance No. 6 of 1857, the same is hereby published for general information.

Districts.

1. VICTORIA,-From the Stone Quarries at West Points to Hoong-heong-loo (or East Point Joss-house).

2. SHOW-KE-WAN,-From Hoong-heong-loo to the village of Ngo-yun-wan, taking in Wong-kok-tsui, Chut-

che-moey, Shui-cheang-wan, Show-ke-wan and Ngo-yun-wan.

3. SAI WAN,-The village of that name.

4. SHEAK O,-The village of that name, including the village called Hok-tsui.

5. TY-TAM Took,-The village of that name.

6.

STANLEY,―The village of that name, including the villages called Ty-tam, Ka-sew-wan, and Wong-ma-kok.

7. HEONG-KONG,-The village of that name.

8. ABERDEEN,-The village of that name, including Aap-le-chow.

9. POK-FOO-LUM,-The village of that name.

The District of Victoria is divided into Seven Sub-districts.

No. 1, Or SEI-YING-POON. From the small village Westward, called Cowee-wan, to the end of Circular

Buildings, including all the houses on Bonham Strand, West of No. 1 Police Boat Station. No. 2, Or SHEONG-WAN.- From the Police Boat Station opposite Circular Buildings, to Gibb's Wharf at the Cross Roads, including all the houses on the North side of the Queen's Road between these two points, and also all the houses on the South side, and facing the Queen's Road, from Gough Street steps to the Cross Roads.

No 3, Or TAI-PING-SHAN From the end of Hollywood Road near Circular Buildings, to Gough Street steps,

including all the houses on the South side of the Queen's Road between these two points.

No. 4, Or CHOONG-WAN,—From the Cross Roads to the Murray Barracks, including both sides of the Queen's Road, and also all the Streets and Roads South of the Queen's Road between these two points.

No. 5, Or HA-WAN.-From Murray Barracks to Observation Point.

No. 6, Or the village of WONG-NEI-CHOONG.

No. 7, Or Soo-KOAN-POO.-From Observation Point to the large Rock beyond Soo-koan-poo Village.'

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

It having been reported by the Treasury Department, that a large amount still remains unpaid on account of Crown Rents due on or before December 24th, 1856,—

Notice is hereby given, that on the expiration of Seven Days from this date, the Crown Solicitor will be directed to institute proceedings against all Defaulters in such respect.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

In accordance with a Communication of the 1st instant, received from the Manager of the Oriental Bank Corporation, it is hereby notified that, in consequence of the resignation of Mr SAMUEL GRAY, the Court of Direc- tors of the said Corporation have made the following appointments of Officers in China, namely:-

Manager at Hongkong, and Principal Officer of the Corporation in China,-MR PATRICK Campbell. Sub-Manager at Hongkong and Canton,—Mr William LamonD. Agent at Shanghai,-MR JOHN Skinner.
