The Contract for publishing this Gazette, entered into on the 24th September, 1853, was terminated on the 30th ultimo ; and notice is hereby given, that a NEW SERIES of this Gazette will be published hereafter, to commence from the 7th instant, under a New Contract, and that

“THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE” will, as before, be the only Official Organ for Proclamations, NotIFICATIONS, and PUBLIC PAPERS, of this Government,

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

Any Persons having to complain of Nuisances, are requested in the first instance to communicate thereon with the Inspector of Nuisances. Such Communication should be in Writing, specifying the Locality and Nature of the Nuisance, and directed to→

"THE INSPECtor of Nuisances,

Central Police Station."

Should the Nuisance complained of continue unabated, the Honourable the Surveyor General will, on reference being made to him, take, the matter under his Superintendence.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

It is hereby notified, that His Excellency The Governor has been pleased to appoint, subject to Her Majesty's approval, JOHN DENT, Esquire, a Member of the Legislative Council of Hongkong.

JOHN Dent, Esquire, having this day been sworn in, took his Seat at the Council Board.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

In consequence of certain applications for Spirit Licenses having been received too late to be brought under consideration at the Special Sessions of Justices of the Peace, held at the Chief Magistrate's Office, on Wednesday, the 18th of the current Month, pursuant to Notification No. 144, of 14th October last, a further Sessions is hereby appointed to be held at the said Office, on Wednesday, the 30th of December ensuing, for the purpose of consider ing the said applications.
