The Contract for publishing this Gazette, entered into on the 24th September, 1853, was terminated on the 30th ultimo ; and notice is hereby
that a NEW SERIES of this Gazette will be published hereafter, to commence from the 7th instant, under à New Contract, and that "THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE"
as before, be the only Official Organ for PROCLAMATIONS, NOTIFICATIONS, and PUBLIC PAPERS, of this Government.

PRESENT:
EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR AND ALL THE MEMBERS, EXCEPT THE CHIEF JUSTICE, ABSENT IN CONSEQUENCE
OF ILLNESS, AND MR JARDINE, WHO REQUESTED TO BE EXCUSED ON ACCOUNT OF PRESSING BUSINESS.
Council met to-day by Special Summons.
Minutes of the Council held on the 22d February last were read and approved.
Excellency The Governor read Despatch No. 55, of 26th October 1858, from the Secretary of State, conveying Her Majesty's Confirmation of Ordinance No. 12 of 1858, and remarking on the facilities offered to Notaries y the 13th Section of the said Ordinance.
Excellency then laid on the Table a Draft Ordinance to amend Ordinances No. 3 and No. 12 of 1858; the same having been read a first time, and ordered to be published in the next Government Gazette,— Council adjourned to Monday, the 2d May, proximo, at 12 o'clock.
Read and approved, this 18th day of May, 1859.

Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, with the advice of the. ative Council of Hongkong.
An Ordinance to amend Ordinances No. 3 and No. 12 of 1858.
[18th May, 1859.]
Whereas it is desirable to amend Ordinances No. 3 of 1858, and No. 12 of 1858 respectively: Be it and ordained by His Excellency the Acting Governor of Hongkong, with the advice of the tive Council thereof, as follows:—
Nothing in Ordinance No. 12 of 1858 shall operate to extend the List of Persons authorized by ance No. 6 of 1845 to be admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Hongkong, in any capacity.
Section 3 of Ordinance No. 3 of 1858 is hereby amended, by substituting for the word "August," “September,” and for the word " October" the word " November."

this 18th day of May, 1859.
