GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

The Contract for publishing this Gazette, entered into on the 24th September, 1853, was terminated on the 30th ultimo; and notice is hereby given that a NEW SERIES of this Gazette will be published hereafter, to commence from the 7th instant, under a New Contract, and that

“THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE" will, as before, be the only Official Organ for PROCLAMATIONS, NOTIFICATIONS, and PUBLIC PAPERS, of this Government."

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

His Excellency Sir JOHN BOWRING, Knight, LL.D., Her Majesty's Plenipotentiary, &c., &c., has received, from Her Britannic Majesty's Consul at Batavia, a Despatch, inclosing an official Notice of the Blockade by the Naval and Military Forces of the Government of Netherlands India, of the Coasts of Boni, in the Island of Celebes, which

S.-I have the honour to inclose translated copy of a communication, received by me from the Government of Netherlands India, have to the Blockade, by the Netherlands Forces, of the Coasts of Boni (Celebes,) and to request that your Excellency will cause the same da te published.—I have, &c.

BATAVIA, 28th February, 1859.

In the name of His Excellency the Governor General, I have the honour to inform you that the Coasts of Boni (Celebes) have been put A state of active Blockade since the 15th of February, 1859, and to hand you a Copy of the Declaration referring thereto, of the Major- ceral Commander-in-Chief of the Sea and Land Forces fitted out to obtain by force of arms redress of grievances from the Queen of Boni, I am desired at the same time to request that you will give notice of this Blockade to the British Government in India and Dependencies, and also to the British authorities in China.

I, the undersigned Major General Commander-in-Chief of the Sea and Land Forces, fitted out to obtain from the Queen of Boni by force of arms redress of grievances due to the Government of Netherlands India, and in terms of the power conferred upon me

DECLARE:

beginning with the 15th February, 1859, the Coasts of the Kingdom of Boni (Celebes) in state of active Blockade, to be maintained by the Naval and Military power under my command.

Any Vessel attempting to violate the Blockade shall be treated according to the international laws and treaties in force with neutral powers. Bay of Badjoa, 10th February, 1858,
