IV. No Emigration Ollieer shall give the Certificato required by the Chinese Passengers' Act, 1855, in Certificate not to be espect of any Chinese Passenger Ship, unless he be satisfied as aforesaid with the Hospital Accommodation granted unless tho a such Ship provided, and with the sanitary state of the Crew and Passengers thereto belonging.

'n Ordinance to amend the Provisions of Ordinance No. 8 of 1858, respecting the Deportation of Mendicants.

[26th December, 1859.] Whereas it is desirable to mend the Provisions, in Ordinance No. 8 of 1858 contained, respecting the eportation of Mendicants from this Colony, and to embody the Law respecting such Deportation in one dinance: Be it enacted and ordained by His Excellency the Governor of Hongkong, with the Advice of je Legislative Council thereof, as follows:--

1. That from and after the passing of this Ordinance, Ordinance No. 1 of 1859, and also so much of rdinance No. 8 of 1858 as provides that Persons convicted of Mendicaney in the Public Streets shall, if His xcellency in Council shall so decide, be deported to any place in the Chinese Empire or elsewhere, shall be, ad the same are hereby, repealed.

Offenders may be

That any Offender under Section Twenty-three of Ordinance No 8 of 1858 shall, in addition to the mishment for such Offence provided by the said Ordinance, be deported to his Native Country, or, with deported to their Na- c consent of such Offender, to any other place, if IIis Excellency the Governor shall so decide.

Whereas on the morning of the 22d instant, a Burglary, accompanied by the murder of one LEW SAM-WOH as committed at Show-kia-wan: Notice is hereby given, that a REWARD of

TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS

ill be paid by this Government to any one giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of any person or ersons engaged in the said murder.

This Notice has been duly circulated in the Chinese language.

A Premium of One Thousand Dollars will be given by the Government for the best and most practicable Scheme r providing the City of Victoria with a constant and sufficient supply of Pure Water. The Report must be accom- nied with Specifications, Plans, and Working Drawings, and a detailed Estimate of the whole service. It is not ntemplated to expend a larger sum than £25,000, and it is hoped that the work may be efficiently executed for a uch smaller outlay.

The Reports must be addressed to the Colonial Secretary, and reach his Office by noon of the 1st February 60, when they will be submitted to the decision of a Committee of non-competitors appointed for the purpose by is Excellency the Governor.
