The Contract for publishing this Gazette, entered into on the 24th September, 1853, was terminated on the 30th ultimo ; and notice is hereby given that a NEW SERIES of this Gazette will be published hereafter, to commence from the 7th instant, under a Now Contract, and that

“THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT GAZETTE” will, as before, be the only Official Organ for PROclamations, NotIFICATIONS, and PUBLIC PAPERS, of this Government.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.

land sale.

Notice is hereby given, that a Sale of Crown Lands will be held at Sowkewan, on Tuesday, the 3d January, at 12 o'clock Noon; and the following Schedule of the same, already circulated in the Chinese Language, is published for general information.

Persons occupying any portion of the Crown Lands included in this Schedule, who can show proof of residence &c., in former years, and can produce before the sale the Registrar General's Receipt for payment of Squatter Rent will be permitted to retain the Lots upon which their houses are situated, upon payment of the fixed Annual Rental and the average price at which the remainder of the Lots may be sold. In all cases where persons have built house without authority, and do not become the purchasers of the Lots upon which their buildings stand, they will be per mitted to remove the materials.
