These latter contain 1400 gallons, and are 151 feet above the sea; a 4-inch pipe is laid therefrom to Hollywood Road, and a 3-inch pipe continued through Peel street to the Queen's Road; a branch 3-inch pipe terminates at the Aberdeen and Hollywood Road junction, and another 3-inch branch

A Tank at 100 feet above the sea is placed on the Glenealy Stream at Wyndham Street, with short 3-inch service pipes for fire-cocks to Wellington Street junction with D'Aguilar Street, and on to Stanley Street junction.
"For present storage of water only an Iron Tank, 180 feet above the sea, for 10,000 gallons, is placed at the head of Tai-ping Shan; two tional Tanks of similar size will be shortly added, and means for a temporary supply are in course of execution. A Stone Tank is also ing built on the Bonham Road, for the supply of Tai-ping Shan West, at 190 feet above the sea; this is to contain 30,000 gallons, and a mporary supply will be laid down to this Tank from the springs in the neighbourhood.
A Stone Tank for 30,000 gallons is erected on the Bonham Road, at 145 feet above the sea, and a temporary supply is laid thereto. These latter will have no discharge pipes, other than what may be necessary for the withdrawal of water therefrom at present.
"It is also contemplated to erect a small Tank at the West Point Police Station, and a similar one at the Civil Hospital; these will supplied in a temporary manuer only, and will contain 5,000 gallons each.
"With regard to the Drainage of the Town, I may in general terms observe, that almost all the Streets where houses are erected have Sewers therein, and in the Streets leading direct to the sea large Culverts are placed for the reception and discharge of storm waters.
*A Sum of £2,838 has been authorized for the erection of the Tanks last named, and for the temporary supply thereto, and as far as acticable this will be arranged in a permanent manner; that is, where pressure is requisite iron pipes and proper stop-cocks will be fixed, nd in other respects this temporary service is performed by wooden shoots and earthenware pipes.

"I shall be happy to give any further information of which I may be in possession, observing however, that the plan of the city inspection in my office, and that the Ordnance Survey shews clearly all existing streams from which water may be procured, but no means ve been resorted to for the collection of such into Reservoirs, the Tanks now erected being merely for the distribution of water into various stricts,"

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
Whereas on the morning of the 22d instant, a Burglary, accompanied by the murder of one Lew Sam-won, was committed at Show-kia-wan : Notice is hereby given, that a REWARD of
TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
will be paid by this Government to any one giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of any person or persons engaged in the said murder.
This Notice has been duly circulated in the Chinose languago.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
Notice having been given, that the present Contract for Printing the Government Gazette, and executing the general Printing required by this Government, will expire on the 31st of December next, it is hereby intimated for general information that Tenders for Printing the said Gazette, and executing such other Printing Work, will be received at this Office up to 4 P.M. on the 30th November of the current year.
Tenders must specify terms on which the Gazette will be undertaken at a certain rate per page, half-page, block of ten lines, or single line; also the terms for supplying Copies of Ordinances, Notifications, &c., made up into pages from the Gazette without alteration of width.
The charge for Chinese Characters, and for intricate Tabular work, must also be specifically stated.
The Tenders for Job Printing must be separate, but framed similarly in their details.
Sixty Copies of each issue of the Gazette will be required for the Government, and the Printer will be expected
to keep a sufficient number on hand for the supply of the Public.
Paper for the Gazette must be found by the Contractor; for the Job Printing it will be furnished by the Government.
Any further information that may be required will be supplied at the office of the Auditor General.

GOVERNMENT NOTIFICATION.
A Premium of One Thousand Dollars will be given by the Government for the best and most practicable Scheme for providing the City of Victoria with a constant and sufficient supply of Pure Water. The Report must be accom- panied with Specifications, Plans, and Working Drawings, and a detailed Estimate of the whole service. It is not contemplated to expend a larger sum than £25,000, and it is hoped that the work may be efficiently executed for a auch sinaller outlay.
The Reports must be addressed to the Colonial Socrotary, and reach his Office by noon of the 1st February, 1860, when they will be submitted to the decision of a Committee of non-competitors appointed for the purpose by His Excellency the Governor.
