The Contract for publishing this Gazette, entered into on the 24th September, 1853, was terminated on the 30th ultimo; and notice is hereby ;rea that a New SERIES of this Gazette will be published hereafter, to commence from the 7th instant, under a New Contract, and that

* before, be the only Official Organ for PROCLAMATIONS, NOTIFICATIONS, and PUBLIC PAPERS, of this Government.

In accordance with instructions received from His Grace THE DUKE OF NEWCASTLE, Her Majesty's Principal retary of State for the Colonies, the provisional recognition of MR S. E. BURROWS, (notified in the Government

tte of the 12th April, 1856,) as Consul for the Republic of New Granada, is withdrawn from this date.

Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies. VICTORIA, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of faith, To Our trusty and well beloved HERCULES GEORGE ROBERT ROBINSON, Esquire, Greeting: Whereas, by a Letters Patent, under the Great Seal of Our United Kingkom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing date Westminster, the Fifth Day of April, One Thousand Eight-hundred and Forty-three, in the Sixth Year of Our . We did make provision for the Government of Our Colony of Hongkong, and of its Dependencies, as upon nee being thereunto had, will more fully, and at large appear; And Whereas We did by certain other Letters nt, under the Great Seal of Our United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, also bearing date at West- ster, the Eleventh Day of January One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-four, in the Soventeenth Year of Reign, constitute and appoint Our trusty and well beloved Jony BowRING, Esquire, now Sir Jony BoWRING, ht, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief, in and over Our said Colony of Hongkong, and of its De- encies, for and during Our Royal Pleasure: NOW KNOW YOU, that We have revoked and determined, by these Presents, Do revoke and determine, the said last recited Letters Patent, and overy Clause, Article, Ting therein contained; And further know you, that We reposing especial trust and confidence in the courage and loyalty, of you the said IIERCULES GEORGE ROBERT ROBINSON, of Our especial grace, knowledge, and mere motion, Have thought fit to constitute and appoint, and do hereby constitute appoint you the said HERCULES GEORGE ROBERT ROBINSON, to bo the Governor and Commander-in-Chief over Our said Colony of Hongkong and its Dopendencies, and of all Forts and Garrisons, erected and ished within the said Colony for and during Our pleasure; And We do hereby require and command the said HERCULES GEORGE ROBERT ROBINSON, to do and execute all Things that shall belong to your Command and the trust We have reposed in you, according to the several powers and directions granted to pointed to the Governor of Our said Colony of Hongkong and of its Dependencies, in and by the said first Letters Patent of the Fifth of April, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty-three, and the Instructions Our Signet and Sign Manual accompanying the same or thereafter given by Us, or according to such further
