COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. 771.-With reference to Government Notifications Nos. 1053 of 1906 and 386 of 1907, it is hereby notified that the Western limit of the cable ground between the North Point of Hongkong and the South-East point of Kowloon Peninsula has been shifted East- ward to an average distance of about 400 yards from its former position.

The cable ground is now marked as follows:

The Western limit by a white post and white obelisk on the Hongkong shore in

line with a white post and white obelisk on the Kowloon shore.

The Eastern limit by a white post and white obelisk on the Hongkong shore in

line with a white post and white obelisk on the Kowloon shore.

By day the four white posts may be distinguished by their carrying a red diamond

shape. By night a red light is displayed on each of them.

The lights are so screened that the Easternmost lights do not show to the East-

ward nor the Westernmost lights to the Westward.

MERCHANT SHIPPING. Ships' Names.

REGULATIONS MADE BY THE BOARD OF TRADE, IN CONJUNCTION

WITH THE COMMISSIONERS OF CUSTOMS, UNDER SECTION 50

OF THE MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT, 1906.

Under the provisions of Section 50 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1906, the Board of Trade, in conjunction with the Commissioners of Customs, hereby make the following regulations relating in ships' names, and direct that they shall come into force on 1st January, 1908:

1. Any person who proposes to make application for the registry of a British ship shall give notice in writing of the proposed name of the ship to the Registrar of Shipping at the intended port of registry at least fourteen days before the date on which it is contemplated to effect the registry.

2. Provided that it shall not be necessary to give notice of the name by which it is pro- posed to register---

(a.) a fishing boat which is only to be entered in the fishing boat register under

Part IV of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894;

(.) a yacht belonging to a recognised club and used for pleasure only.
