passed away. There must be some uncertainty on the point for about a month or six weeks longer, but the general aspect of the country
s such as to have led the local authorities to declare themselves sufficiently prepared to meet any contingencies that are likely to arise.
The Executive Committee have accordingly thought it expedient to convene this meeting with a view to the final closure of Famine Relief operations in Calcutta.
From the time of their appointment on the 21st January 1861, the Executive Committee have collected an aggregate sum of Rs. 9,13,011-2-3 for the benefit of the sufferers from the Famine. This amount has been received from different quarters in the following proportions:-

The accounts in detail, duly audited, are submitted for the consideration and approval of the General Committee. So soon as one doubtful item can be finally adjusted, the amount will be remitted to Agra and Lahore, and the books of the Committee be finally cleared. The Executive Committee venture to hope that in now rendering this final account of their proceedings they may not have disappoint- ed the expectations of the General Committee and of their fellow Citizens in the results they have effected for the sufferers by the great
alamity now happily at an end.
They besprak the attention of the General Committee to the unwearied and most successful labours of their Honorary Secretary, to whom they feel that much of what they have accomplished is justly to be attributed.

The following Resolutious of the General Committee of the Calcutta Famine Relief Fund were unanimously adopted at their fina! eeting on the 31st August, 1861,-Colonel R. Baird Smith, C.B., in the Chair.
1st. Resolved that the proceedings of the Executive Committee be confirmed, and their accounts, as audited by Messrs. J. II. Fergusson and J. R. Bullen Smith, be passed.
2nd. Resolved that the special thanks of this meeting be given to the Executive Committee for their careful attention to and suc- cessful manageu ent of the affairs of the Relief Fund.
3rd. Resolved that the hearty thanks of the General Committee are duc to Colonel Baird Smith for the zeal and energy with which, as their President, he has directed the measures of the Executive Committee.
4th. Resolved that the grateful thanks of this meeting be conveyed through the Chairman to the Right Honorable the Lord Mayor and the London General Committee for their earnest and most successful co-operation in mitigating the miseries of the Famine. This meeting, as representing all classes of Her Majesty's subjects in India, desires to record its conviction that the munificent charity of the English people towards the people of India on this occasion has produced moral as well as material results of the highest importance and likely to be of permanent effect.
5th.
Resolved that the grateful thanks of this meeting be similarly conveyed to the Indian Famine Relief Committees of Dublin, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester and such other places in England as have co-operated in promoting the objects of the Fund.
6th. Resolved that the Colonial contributions be also gratefully acknowledged.
7th. Resolved that the specia! thanks of this meeting be conveyed to the Bengal Chamber of Commerce for the assistance they have rendered to the Committee in granting them the use of their Hall and otherwise cordially supporting their operations.
8th. Resolved that this meeting cordially adopts and confirms the 4th Resolution of the Executive Committee at their meeting on the 22nd instant, acknowledging the valuable services of their Honorary Secretary Mr. H. W. I. Wood.
